In the 60th Anniversary year of the US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference met at the UN in New York City to discuss the fate of a treaty in serious disarray. The Mayors for Peace, led by Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have enrolled hundreds of mayors across the globe in the Emergency Campaign to Ban Nuclear Weapons. On May 1st, on the eve of the opening day of the NPT Review Conference, tens of thousands of people - including mayors, civic officials and citizens from around the globe - marched in the streets of New York City demanding the total abolition of nuclear weapons and the end of nuclear excuses for war.
